Thought Experiment (Preamble)

Imagine if the MS vendors announced today a new MS instrument that quantified up to ~2000% more peptides. Moreover, these additional peptides made up the dark proteome.

Further, there were now small add-on devices that instantly upgraded all your old MSs to these new MSs.

Finally, these devices could quantify the dark proteome from years' worth of previously generated DIA-MS data.

That is, there is no need to redo experiments, re-acquire limited precious samples, find lab space, or hire additional mass spectrometrists.

We provide this last above option, except instead of a physical set of devices, we open up our lab — i.e., the combination of the GoldenHaystack algorithm (preprint) plus our engineers — in order to provide the results outlined in the above thought experiment. Please see "Easy Workflow."

Estimating Lifetime Value

Estimating Lifetime Value

We estimate the lifetime value of discovering a parsimonious panel that separates study conditions as follows:

First, we conservatively assume that not every project's DIA-MS dataset will have parsimonious panels that separate study conditions (please see "VI. Limitations" in preprint). But if even only a small percentage of projects do, the potential >20 year total value is embarrassingly substantial, not just from a financial return-on-investment (ROI) perspective, but also from a science and humanity perspective.

Emphasis on Speed

Emphasis on Speed

Because speed of discovery is valuable for many different reasons, we are partial towards labs that have a bias towards action.
